EmPoWER Somerset and Pioneer Family Success Center Open House & Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

Joe came out to support Empower Somerset and Pioneer Family Success Center at their Open House and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. As an EmPoWER board member, he looks forward to continuing to support them as they fulfill our important mission! The opioid epidemic is a profound issue nationally, and our community is not immune to the crisis. As a board member of EmPoWER Somerset, Joe has learned about the work that they do in collaborating with local partners to educate the community about the epidemic and how we can get involved in preventing more tragedies. EmPoWER Somerset is a non-profit organization based in Somerville; its mission is to assist individuals and families in the county to make positive lifestyle choices and to promote healthy communities through education, collaboration, and connections to resources. Joe is happy to share that EmPoWER was recently awarded a $125,000 Mental Health Training Grant that allows them provide Mental Health First Aid training in Somerset County, with a priority focus on those who interact with youth and veterans. They mentored Community in Crisis, a coalition in the area that focuses on drug prevention, opioids and heroin specifically. More recently, they have been working with the Somerset Hills School District and Municipal Alliance to host a town hall event focusing on substance abuse, mental health, and our kids. They work with the Bernards Township Health Department to spread awareness about the local prescription drug drop off boxes and encourage residents to dispose of their unused or expired medication so that youth do not have access to prescription drugs.

5K for Katie

Katie King is an amazing 10-year-old girl, an avid athlete who loves to play lacrosse and soccer. She was diagnosed with metastatic Ewing Sarcoma, an aggressive bone cancer, on August 23, 2017. She had surgery August 18th to remove two tumors on her spine but the cancer had spread to other locations... lungs, spine, pelvis and bone marrow. She was lucky it was discovered that night or she most likely would never have walked again. Katie is now undergoing aggressive chemotherapy and radiation at CHOP in Philadelphia. The Katie King Foundation was established to help the King family with medical bills, along with travel expenses to and from Philadelphia. Please show your support for this dear child through fundraisers being hosted by the Katie King Foundation #katieskrewstrong

As our Township changes, its leaders owe it to all residents to change with it.” - Joe Esposito “Our residents deserve leadership and have come to expect it. Our residents are constantly challenging us to raise the bar. And we’re listening.” -John Surano
